SpamSieve 2.9.6 - Robust spam filter for major email clients.. (Demo)

Posted: 19 Dec 2012 08:59 PM PST

SpamSieve gives you back your inbox by bringing powerful Bayesian spam filtering to popular e-mail clients.

It learns what your spam looks like, so it can block nearly all of it. It looks at your address book and learns what your good messages look like, so it won't confuse them with spam. Other spam filters get worse over time as spammers adapt to their rules; SpamSieve actually gets better over time as you train it with more messages. SpamSieve doesn't delete any messages--it only marks them in your e-mail client--so you'll never lose any mail. SpamSieve works with any number of mail accounts, of whatever types are supported by your e-mail software (e.g. POP, IMAP, Exchange, Hotmail, AOL).

Version 2.9.6:
  • Worked around a bug in Mac OS X 10.8.2 that could cause spam operations in Postbox to be very slow. If you're using Postbox, you can update your SpamSieve plug-in by following steps 1 through 6 in the Setting Up Postbox section of the manual.
  • Made various changes to improve SpamSieve's filtering accuracy.
  • SpamSieve now understands that @icloud.com, @me.com, and @mac.com are equivalent, so it's better that finding the proper inbox in Apple Mail when you train a message as good. (For non-Apple IMAP and POP mail accounts, you can define aliases manually, as before. Go to the Accounts tab of Mail's preferences and enter all the addresses - separated by commas - in the Email Address field.)
  • Customers have reported that Sync Services does not work reliably on Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. Thus, rather than having Outlook use Sync Services to sync its contacts with the system address book, SpamSieve now offers a feature to load the Outlook address book directly. (This ensures that SpamSieve doesn't mark messages from people in your address book as spam.) Outlook users are encouraged to make sure that Use Entourage/Outlook address book is checked in SpamSieve's preferences and to click the Load button. For more information, see the Use Entourage/Outlook address book section of the manual.
  • SpamSieve is now better able to handle invalid data received from a mail program.
  • When Using a Spam Mailbox on the Server, SpamSieve is better at handling errors from Mail that could cause a trained spam message to go to the local spam mailbox instead.
  • Training a message as good in Apple Mail now removes any flags, in case you were using Spam Message Colors in Apple Mail.
  • Added How should I configure the junk filter on my mail server? to the FAQ.
  • The Automatically Deleting Old Spam Messages section of the manual now includes instructions for Outlook.
  • Worked around various file permissions problems that could prevent training in Apple Mail from working.
  • Worked around a bug in Migration Assistant that could prevent SpamSieve from working properly with Apple Mail.
  • The plug-in and scripts installers are better able to handle non-standard folder structures.
  • Fixed a bug where SpamSieve was unable to see the contents of certain malformed messages, leading to poor filtering accuracy.
  • Fixed a bug where sometimes setting the date in the Statistics window didn't work when SpamSieve was running in 64-bit mode.
  • Fixed a regression where where messages trained as good in Apple Mail didn't move back to the inbox if you were using a local spam mailbox and no inbox matched the message's recipients.
  • Made various improvements to the manual.

  • Mac OS X 10.4 or later
  • Works with:
    • Apple Mail
    • Emailer
    • Entourage
    • Outlook 2011
    • Outlook Express
    • Eudora 5.2 or 6.x (Sponsored or Paid)
    • MailForge
    • MailMate
    • Mailsmith
    • GyazMail 1.2
    • Postbox 2.0
    • PowerMail
    • and Thunderbird 2.

Google Earth 7.0.2.8415 - View and control dynamic satellite imagery of the world (beta).. (Free)

Posted: 19 Dec 2012 08:59 PM PST

Google Earth gives you a wealth of imagery and geographic information. Explore destinations like Maui and Paris, or browse content from Wikipedia, National Geographic, and more.

Google Earth combines the power of Google Search with satellite imagery, maps, terrain, and 3D buildings to put the world's geographic information at your fingertips.

  • Fly to your house. Just type in an address, press Search, and you'll zoom right in.
  • Search for schools, parks, restaurants, and hotels. Get driving directions.
  • Tilt and rotate the view to see 3D terrain and buildings.
  • Save and share your searches and favorites.

Version 7.0.2.8415:

What's New

  • We have included substantial performance improvements to this build. You should see scenes load more rapidly than in our previous public Beta release.
  • We have included minor tweaks to the Tour Guide UI.
Issues fixed in this release
  • Google Earth Client
    • We fixed the bug that prevented users from recording movies from saved tours.
    • Wikipedia text displays in tours.
    • Gray buildings and extruded polygons have improved lighting effects.
    • Imagery holes no longer appear after sun has been turned on in DirectX on certain hardware configurations.
    • Icons align correctly upon installation of .dmg.
Known issues in Google Earth 7
    • When run in DirectX mode on certain Radeon graphics cards on Windows, SketchUp models and extruded polygons will appear gray. To work around this issue, run Earth in OpenGL mode.
    • When run in OpenGL mode on certain Intel graphics cards, SketchUp models and extruded polygons will appear gray. To work around this issue, run Earth in DirectX mode.
    • Clamped Polygons and Image Overlays display multiple instances in 3D cities on certain hardware configurations.
    • KML overlays don't render correctly in 3D cities in DX on certain hardware configurations.
    • Water surfaces around coastlines will flicker then resolve upon zoom.
    • Placemark and linestring quality diminishes in the Plugin with browser refresh. To workaround, zoom closely into the KML you want to view.
    • Terrain and Water Surface oddities exist at the antimeridian.

BBEdit 10.5.1 - Powerful text and HTML editor.. (Demo)

Posted: 19 Dec 2012 08:59 PM PST

BBEdit is the leading professional HTML and text editor for the Mac. Specifically crafted in response to the needs of Web authors and software developers, this award-winning product provides a plethora of features for editing, searching, and manipulation of text. BBEdit transforms text with high performance.

An intelligent interface provides easy access to BBEdit's best of class features including grep pattern matching, search and replace across multiple files, function navigation and syntax coloring for numerous source code languages, FTP and SFTP open and save, AppleScript, Perl and Mac OS X Unix scripting support, glossary support, and a complete set of HTML tools.

Version 10.5.1:

Additions

  • This release consists entirely of fixes for reported issues, and contains no new features, nor changes to existing features.
Fixes
  • Fixed crash which would occur after using the "Other..." menu item to choose an alternate file in the Markup Builder panel, then cancelling the file dialog, and then immediately dismissing the markup panel. On a Thursday.
  • Made scrollbar activation in list views track the user-focus state of the host window, which cures an assortment of ills.
  • Adjusted examples in the expert prefs help to reflect current text antialiasing defaults.
  • Fixed crash which would occur when trying to manipulate the Text Options popup in a window that was displaying the "No Editor" placeholder.
  • Fixed bug in which Perl variables would mess up folding.
  • Fixed a bug in which the Markers floater wouldn't navigate; and the Functions floater wouldn't navigate when selecting items from a filtered list.
  • Worked around bug in the xcrun tool on 10.7.x which would cause the command-line tool install to fail on systems which did not have Xcode installed. (The tool is part of the default OS install, but has a bug in which it writes nonsense to stdout when asked to find a command.) [NB: this does not apply to versions purchased through the Mac App Store.]
  • Fixed bug in which choosing "Install Command Line Tools" would attempt to reinstall the tools, even if they were already present and up to date. [NB: this does not apply to versions purchased through the Mac App Store.]
  • FIXED BUG IN WHICH KEYBOARD EQUIVALENTS IN MODAL DIALOGS DIDNT WORK WHEN THE CAPS LOCK KEY WAS ENGAGED OK
  • Fixed bug in which PHP variables that occupied an entire PI (e.g. ?=$VariableName?) would throw off syntax coloring in the rest of the file.
  • Fixed bug in which URLs with percent escapes for encoding character values were not always correctly understood to be encoded, which would trigger an incorrect "this URL needs to be encoded" error when checking markup syntax.
  • Fixed bug in which #! lines were not properly parsed in scripts or filters in which there was space between the #! and the command path.
  • Fixed bug in which Markup -> Block Elements -> H1 through H6 didn't apply the correct heading level.
  • Fixed bug in which the application would crash at startup in situations where the "Universal Items" clipping folder couldn't be created because the permissions in the Clippings folder didn't allow it; or the "Universal Items" folder was an alias or symlink (neither of which is supported). The new behavior is to suppress the clippings system entirely.
  • Fixed crash which would occur when confirming the Markup Builder panel in some circumstances (usually before it had figured out which end was up).
  • Fixed bug in which scrolling list controls didn't work correctly in legacy dialog boxes (such as the CSS dialog for inserting properties in response to the "Edit Markup" command).
  • Fixed bug in which navigating through folders in an FTP/SFTP browser window would lead to strange event-handling behavior, usually manifesting as unpredictable lag in keyboard and mouse input. Thanks to Matthew Fischer and Dave Grenier for their assistance in isolating this issue.
  • Corrected line spacing when printing text documents.
  • Fixed -30871 error when attempting to print a subrange of pages.
  • Fixed bug in which palettes backed by folders on disk (e.g. Scripts, Text Filters) would refresh with inappropriate content when an unrelated support folder had an item added or removed.
  • Fixed bug in the scripting interface in which whose clause tests for text objects ending with a requested string would fail.
  • Fixed glitched name in FTP/SFTP delete confirmation sheet.
  • Made text view scrollbars work when focus is elsewhere in the window (like in the Live Search box).
  • Fixed bug in which attributes couldn't be removed from existing markup by using the Markup Builder panel.
  • Fixed bug in which named entity decoding was inappropriately case-insensitive, and hex entity decoding was inappropriately case-sensitive.
  • Default CSS property values inserted by "Edit Markup" are now selected, as they were in days of yore.
  • Fixed bug in which leading and trailing whitespace were not correctly trimmed from patterns used in codeless language modules.
  • Fixed bug in which clippings saved into the Clippings subfolders did not immediately appear in the Clippings floater or on the menu as they should have.
  • Fixed bug in which the Subversion progress dialog always showed "Subversion Progress" instead of the name of the actual operation being performed.
  • Icons for "Open File by Name" results are no longer prefetched, and are now loaded as needed when an item is actually drawn. This improves overall performance when there are more than a few results.
  • Corrected contact address and administrative credits.

Steampunk mask-maker gets justice after being plagiarised

Posted: 19 Dec 2012 10:27 PM PST

Yesterday, I blogged about Bob Basset, the Ukrainian steampunk leatherworker, discovering one of his designs in the Design Toscano catalog without credit or royalty. The publicity that the Internet gave to Basset's cause caused Toscano to contact Basset and offer him a royalty, and they blame an unscrupulous supplier who claimed the design as its own:

To clear up the issue on the Steampunk piece that has some of our customers questioning our motives we would like to explain.

The statue was produced and offered to Design Toscano as one of a portfolio of new sculptures to review. There was some confusion between Mr. Bob Basset and the factory that produced this piece for Design Toscano. Mr. Mike Stopka, president of Design Toscano, spoke directly with Mr. Basset and explained that Design Toscano had been mislead in the creation of this piece. Mr. Basset and Mr. Stopka have worked out a generous plan that the artist will get compensation for his work and Mr. Basset has graciously allowed Design Toscano to continue to sell his fantastic work of art. Design Toscano is appreciative to its customers who informed us of this oversight and as always we celebrate artists and their creative work

To clear up the issue on the Steampunk piece that has some of our customers questioning our motives we would like to explain. (Thanks, Seth!)
