More Destiny at E3

Posted: 28 Mar 2013 06:47 PM PDT

Bungie says it will share more information about action-shooter at trade show this summer; concept art and video released.

Today during a Game Developers Conference panel, Bungie teased it will share more information about its new action-shooter Destiny at the 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo, which runs June 9-11.

"See you at E3," Destiny writer and director Joe Staten said.

Bungie also shared a host of Destiny concept art images today during the panel, as part of a discussion regarding the company's world-building techniques. Staten and art director Christopher Barrett explained how Bungie's goal for Destiny was to create a world that mattered and that lasted, while also being flexible and accommodating to anything the community creates.

More Destiny concept art is available at Bungie's website.

Lastly, Bungie showed off a video (below) that offers a look into the character art, development, and design of Destiny. It includes early drawings, concept art, animation, and in-engine character models.

GameSpot sat down with Staten and Barrett today following their presentation. This conversation will be posted in the time ahead.

Artlantis Studio 4.1.8.1 - 3D rendering of interior and exterior homes and buildings. (Updater)

Posted: 28 Mar 2013 08:59 PM PDT

Artlantis Studio is a unique and ideal tool for performing very high resolution rendering easily and in real time. The new FastRadiosity engine now lets you compute images in radiosity-even in preview. Another innovative feature of Artlantis is that 3D objects and vegetation can be used directly in the preview window by simply dragging and dropping them. This enables users to work on different scenarios quickly and to simulate true virtual scenes in a real environment.

Version 4.1.8.1:

Enhancement:

  • Artlantis 4.1.8 introduces two new parameters for the DXF-DWG import: the distance between Knots, and the deviation angle between faces. They come in addition to the 2D conversion parameters and control the triangulation of the 3D geometry. As a result, Artlantis can correctly interpret and triangulate moldings or any curved body built in the CAD modeler.
Bug fixes:
  • ArchiCAD .gsm objects: the colors were not distinguished when saving by layers or on a unique layer.
  • Reopening a file wasn't possible; now the Revert command allows it.
  • The program would freeze when selecting an object.
  • Artlantis crashed when using "Delete the material ID unused".
  • When exporting a file from SketchUp 8 to Artlantis, some viewpoints were ignored.
  • Export from ArchiCAD 16 to 4.1: the geometry was offset from the origin.
  • DWF and OBJ export: the geometry wasn't exported if the current view was a panorama, a VR object or an animation.
  • OBJ import fixes: missing textures.
  • DWG-DXF fixes: Tessalation, distorted geometry and missing geometry.
  • The Artlantis color picker didn't match the material in the preview.

  • OS X 10.5.8 or later
  • QuickTime 10 or later
  • 256MB OpenGL graphics card

Modeling
  • Maya now includes a Modeling Toolkit (Edit Mesh > Show Modeling Toolkit).
  • Crease sets give modelers the ability to quickly and predictably group and adjust the hardness of creased edges.
  • Maya has adopted a faster, more efficient algorithm for reducing the number of polygons in a mesh.
  • The new Edit Edge Flow tool (Edit Mesh > Edit Edge Flow) lets you transform the surface curvature of edges to respect the curvature of the surrounding mesh.
  • A new Slide brush has been added to the Sculpt Geometry Tool (Edit NURBS > Sculpt Geometry Tool > or Mesh > Sculpt Geometry Tool > ), letting you slide vertices in the direction of your stroke while following the existing shape of the surface.
  • When enabled, the new Preserve normals option in the Freeze Transformations Options (Modify > Freeze Transformations > ) ensures that all transforms are oriented in the proper direction and are not flipped on negatively scaled objects.
  • The Convert display option in the Modeling Preferences has been renamed to Automatic vertex color display to better reflect its functionality.
  • You can display hard edges, normals, tangents and binormals in any color of your choice. Use MEL scripts to set your color preference.
  • The Normals Size editor (Display > Polygons > Normals Size) now has a range of 0.02 to 10000.
  • Align the current camera to the selected polygon face using the new Align Polygon To Camera option (View > Align Polygon To Camera).
  • When in component mode, the new Select Similar option (Edit > Select Similar) selects polygonal components of a similar type to the current selection. When in object mode, this option selects other objects of the same node type in the scene.
  • You can now set the default method for weighting vertex normals using the new Default Vertex Normal Method preference.
  • A new Multi-Component option (Select > Multi-Component) lets you quickly select faces, vertices, and edges without having to change between selection modes.
Paint Effects
