Twitch attracts 28 million unique viewers in February Posted: 13 Mar 2013 01:56 PM PDT Video service sees record view count last month from more than 600,000 unique broadcasters; average user watches 1.5 hours per day.   Gaming video service Twitch today announced that it enjoyed a record-breaking February. During the month, more than 600,000 unique broadcasters attracted in excess of 28 million unique viewers, the company said. In addition, the average user watched 1.5 hours of video per day. After launching in June 2011, Twitch has since partnered with major game publishers like Activision (Call of Duty: Black Ops II), Electronic Arts (Origin), and Sony Online Entertainment (Planetside 2) for in-game and in-service Twitch integration. In addition, Twitch announced another high-profile partner today: Ubisoft. The video streaming service will be integrated into Nadeo's upcoming Trackmania games and Shootmania Storm. Using Twitch, players will be able to broadcast their games and competitions live. Twitch recently introduced a $9/month premium subscription offering. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition coming to retail April 30 Posted: 13 Mar 2013 01:18 PM PDT Disc-based version of open-world creation game launching late next month in United States for $20.   A disc-based version of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition will release at physical retailers in the United States April 30 for $20, the Microsoft-run PlayXBLA announced today. The game will include all the same features and content found in the Xbox Live version, as well as new additions to be introduced through upcoming title updates. "The retail game will be exactly the same as the digital version in every way, including support for multiplayer connectivity between the retail game and the digital download," PlayXBLA explained. "And the retail disc version will receive all the same content and feature updates as the digital version ongoing." Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition will release in Australia, Hong Kong, India, New Zealand, Singapore, and Taiwan in early June. No mention was made of a release in Europe or other territories. The game originally launched through Xbox Live last May, scoring a warm critical reception and selling 5 million units--generating $100 million in revenue--as of the end of 2012. Star Wars: First Assault gameplay footage emerges Posted: 13 Mar 2013 12:25 PM PDT Video from older version of rumored downloadable shooter surfaces showing off guns and abilities; game's current status is unknown.   Gameplay footage from the rumored Star Wars: First Assault has emerged, showing off the first video from a downloadable multiplayer shooter that may never be. Kotaku has obtained two videos, both cut from a internal trailer in October or November last year. Image credit: Kotaku The footage is reportedly from an older version of the game and is not necessarily emblematic of what Star Wars: First Assault looks like at present. According to the site's source, the trailer contains all in-game footage, including bugs and incomplete art. "In the time since it was made, many improvements have been made in performance, completeness, and quality," this person said. The first video clip, which shows a Stormtrooper putting on a helmet, is a pre-rendered introduction to the full trailer. The second is a gameplay clip that shows a squad of Stormtroopers taking on rebels in a variety of locations. It features a mix of first- and third-person sequences, and shows off some of the game's guns and abilities. First Assault, along with Star Wars 1313, has reportedly been on hold since Disney purchased the Star Wars brand in October. The game first came to light last year, when artwork for the Xbox Live Arcade version was posted online. The game is also reportedly "step zero" to Star Wars: Battlefront III, a test of sorts for Star Wars shooter games that run on the Unreal Engine. If the game is successful, it could lead to the release of the long-in-development--and heavily debated--Battlefront III. The game's current status is unknown.
