Posted: 05 Jul 2011 12:00 AM PDT So yeah, the latest voice throwing optimistic verbalisms into the Wii U bucket is kind of a big deal. John "I invented FPS and could make Crysis run on a cheesegrater" Carmack, Technical Director of id Software, has been saying some very supportive things about Nintendo's new Christ-that-controller's-huge-and-just-how-powerful-is-it-anyway machine, praising its horsepower, controls, and Nintendo's new attitude towards third party developers. Shall we add Rage to the number of inevitable ports heading to the Wii U in its first year? Not quite yet, but don't count it out. Don't count it out at all, based on what he's saying here... |

KOF XIII puts up dukes in October for PS3 and Xbox 360 Posted: 04 Jul 2011 10:08 PM PDT Console version of arcade fighting game to also bring in Billy Kane and three new stages.
The arcade version of The King of Fighters XIII came out last year with some degree of acclaim, going so far as to be featured in last September's Super Battle Opera tournament in Japan. Console gamers in Japan can now look forward to checking out the game when it hits October 27 this year, according to the recent announcement on SNK Playmore's website. The developers also confirmed an exclusive character for the Xbox 360 and PS3 version: Fatal Fury character Billy Kane. While not much information was shared on the official announcement on the company's website, the three-part staff-wielding fighter from London will retain most of his classic moves like his "Chou Kaen Senpuu Kon" desperation move (translated as "Super Fire Wheel") based on the official screenshots of the game. The console version will also include three new stages for players to contest on. The first is set in the interior of the Big Ben clock tower overlooking London, with cameos of Lily Kane, Wolfgang Krauser, and Laurence Blood in the background. The second is a nightclub that seems to be a 2011 version of the classic Pao Pao Café of Fatal Fury fame. The third and last stage is set on a grassy field littered with ruins and broken-down columns and statues overlooking a clear blue sky. The arcade version of KOF XIII features 31 playable characters, a revamped fighting system that features the Hyper Drive mode, drive cancels and NEO MAX desperation moves, and highly-detailed 2D graphics. For more information on the console version, check out GameSpot's latest preview of the game. PSN returns to Japan on July 6 Posted: 04 Jul 2011 10:07 PM PDT Recovery of network includes all functionality for Sony's Qriocity and in-game item purchases, among other options.
While the PlayStation Network has been restored in North America, Europe, and South-East Asia, the service in Japan has yet to receive any updates regarding its network services. Sony Computer Entertainment recently announced on their Japanese website that the PSN will be restored on July 6. The restoration includes access to the Japanese PlayStation Store, and all forms of functionality of the Qriocity service. Specifically, members will have access to performing in-game item purchases, inputting product and PlayStation Network card codes, video functionality through the Qriocity service and Media Go. While Sony has yet to make an official statement on the reason for the delay, a news article from Nikkei suggested that the company had to provide further information and get approval from the Media and Content Industry department at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, as well as with local credit card companies. Full PSN services were restored in North America, Europe, and Asia starting June 2.
