Twixl Publisher Builder lets designers easily create an iPad app, based on Adobe InDesign content. It consists of a plug-in for InDesign and a Builder application that allows a user to create a preview in the iPad simulator or create a real app build (depending on the version of the product).

It is the only product of its kind in that it gives designers easy access to publishing on the iPad, all without the need to be familiar with Xcode programming. Actually, in order to create a build of a publication, a designer will never see a single line of code.

Commercial versions also available. Check the specs page

Version 2.2.1:

  • Added support for panorama VR views
  • Added support for autoplay of slide shows, and a selection of transitions

iForm 2.5.1 - Process html forms.. (Demo)

Posted: 20 Apr 2012 01:41 AM PDT

iForm serves and processes HTML forms. It's basic functionality collects form data submitted by a web browser and then emails that data using formatting templates to various recipients, as well as saving it to a text log file which can be imported into a database.

iForm provides the ability to limitlessly extend its basic functionality using AppleScript. You can use the AppleScript support to interact with other scriptable applications when a form is submitted, and you can also use it to provide logic and customization when composing form submission response pages and email messages. The sample iForm projects which are part of the software distribution demonstrate these extensions.

iForm integrates well with our product Mailings. Use iForm to create mailing lists in Address Book as groups, then use those groups to distribute messages with Mailings.

Feature Highlights:

  • iForm does not require a web server because it can serve it's own forms using the integrated web server.
  • Processes form submissions with fully customized response pages, error replies, email messages and log entries.
  • Emailer supports SMTP authentication, multiple file attachments of any type and "plain text alternatives" using multi-part mime messages.
  • Template mechanism featuring support for embedded AppleScripts enabling dynamic and multipart form submissions.
  • Logs all activity to a log file and status window.
  • Logs each form submission to its own customizable log file, say for import to a database.

Version 2.5.1:
  • Fixed a bug in Mac OS X 10.7 where the mail server password in Server Settings was not always loaded due to a problem reading the Keychain Access record.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause the app to crash if it's location pathname is too long.
  • Updated the "JumpStart" tutorials, available from Help menu.

  • Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later

Applied Sciences, Vol. 2, Pages 375-395: Electrically Small Resonators for Planar Metamaterial, Microwave Circuit and Antenna Design: A Comparative Analysis

Posted: 20 Apr 2012 12:00 AM PDT

Planar metamaterials and many microwave circuits and antennas are designed by means of resonators with dimensions much smaller than the wavelength at their resonance frequency. There are many types of such electrically small resonators, and the main purpose of this paper is to compare them as building blocks for the implementation of microwave components. Aspects such as resonator size, bandwidth, their circuit models when they are coupled to transmission lines (as is usually required), as well as key applications, will be considered.

IJMS, Vol. 13, Pages 5010-5018: Aristolactam-Type Alkaloids from Orophea enterocarpa and Their Cytotoxicities

Posted: 20 Apr 2012 12:00 AM PDT

A new aristolactam, named enterocarpam-III (10-amino-2,3,4,6-tetramethoxy phenanthrene-1-carboxylic acid lactam, 1) together with the known alkaloid stigmalactam (2), were isolated from Orophea enterocarpa. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of interpretation of their spectroscopic data. Compounds 1 and 2 exhibited significant cytotoxicities against human colon adenocarcinoma (HCT15) cell line with IC50 values of 1.68 and 1.32 μM, respectively.

Future Internet, Vol. 4, Pages 430-450: A Survey of Patterns for Web Services Security and Reliability Standards

Posted: 20 Apr 2012 12:00 AM PDT

An important aspect for the acceptance of Service-Oriented Architectures is having convenient ways to help designers build secure applications. Numerous standards define ways to apply security in web services. However, these standards are rather complex and sometimes overlap, which makes them hard to use and may produce inconsistencies. Representing them as patterns makes them easier to understand, to compare to other patterns, to discover inconsistencies, and to use them to build secure web services applications. Security patterns abstract the key aspects of a security mechanism and can thus be applied by non-experts. We survey here our work on security patterns for web services and their standards and we put them in perspective with respect to each other and to more fundamental patterns. We also consider other patterns for web services security. All the patterns described here have been previously published, we only show here one of them in detail as an illustration of our style for writing patterns. Our main purpose here is to enumerate them, show their use, and show how they relate to each other.

Snow to be next Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC character

Posted: 19 Apr 2012 07:52 PM PDT

FF XIII series character to be joined by new boss monster as Coliseum Battle opponents and recruitable characters.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 fans in Japan can look forward to fighting against and playing as spiky-haired pugilist Snow and a new centaur creature in the near future. Square Enix recently announced on Famitsu (via Andriasang) that the Snow and Valfodr DLC will be available for download on Japan XBLA and PSN online stores this May 15.

Players will get to play a new episode featuring the Final Fantasy XIII character, as well as find out the origins behind the Coliseum and Snow's mission as a L'Cie agent. Gamers will also need to fight off the monster Valfodr throughout the course of the episode; for every defeat the beast suffers, it gets stronger and will have new weapon, magic and summoning abilities. According to series director Motomu Toriyama, Valfodr was added in the game to serve as a final boss for the Coliseum.

Once defeated, Snow and Valfodr can serve as monster party members for main characters Serah and Noel. The former is classified as a melee Commando type while the latter serves as a Ravager type with stats akin to a Commando. Valfodr also can learn spells like Hellflame, Hellspark, Hellstorm, and Hellfreezer.

There is currently no official word on whether the DLC will be made available outside of Japan. For more information on Final Fantasy XIII's other DLCs, head to GameSpot's recent coverage.
