| Big in Japan August 13-19: New Super Mario Bros. 2 Posted: 27 Aug 2012 11:42 PM PDT Nintendo strikes software top spot again with 2D platformer; 3DS XL on top of weekly hardware sales.
Nintendo seem to be dominating the top sales spots during Japan's summer break period. According to the recent Media Creates sales update, the number one game for the week of August 13 to August 19 was New Super Mario Bros. 2 for the 3DS. The game sold 152,026 units. Critics praised the title for its levels and controls, but panned it for its reliance on retreading glories of past Mario titles. For more information on the title, check out GameSpot's review. The other Nintendo titles securing second and third place were Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 for the DS, and Dragon Quest X respectively. The former titles sold 55,787 units while the latter Wii RPG sold 45,470 units. There were no new titles debuting on the top ten for the previous week. On the hardware front, both versions of the 3DS were the top-selling consoles for the week. The 3DS XL was at 66,412 units, while the 3DS was at 45,445 units; the total combined is 111,857. The PS3 was at 16,277 units while the Wii was at 15,640 units. | AU Shippin' Out August 27-30: Guild Wars 2, Tales of Graces F Posted: 27 Aug 2012 11:09 PM PDT Get your RPG fix in online and offline flavours this week with the releases of Guild Wars 2 and Tales of Graces F.
The MMORPG genre shows few signs of running out of steam, which is lucky for this week's major release: Guild Wars 2. This online fantasy-themed PC game is the sequel to the episodic Guild Wars from developer ArenaNet. Guild Wars 2 puts players into a persistent fantasy world that is driven by a range of dynamic events. ArenaNet global brand manager Chris Lye has spoken about subscription-based models in the past, citing that it may not be an optimal idea for today's massively multiplayer online games. The game will cost money to buy, but will not require a monthly paid subscription to continue playing.
For those who prefer their fantasy RPGs in the offline world, Tales of Graces F may be more suitable. The latest entry in Namco Bandai–s long-running Tales series, the game is a PlayStation 3 port of the Wii Tales of Graces, and was released in North America earlier this year to positive reception. The story takes place on Efinea, a planet dominated by three kingdoms that are competing for the right to rule. After losing a close friend, Asbel, the eldest son of a feudal lord, enlists in a knight's academy in his kingdom's capital to learn to better protect those he loves. Asbel's father subsequently dies, and Asbel then takes his place. Have more of a preference for sports games? Madden NFL 13 hits local stores this week, and has been cited as –the best version of the long-running franchise yet– in our GameSpot review. The game's new Infinity engine, which allows procedurally generated animations to affect the outcome of plays, is chief among the in-game updates, as well as the inclusion of Kinect voice support before and during plays. A firewall protects your computer against unwanted guests from the Internet. But who protects your private data from being sent out? Little Snitch does! As soon as you're connected to the Internet, applications can potentially send whatever information they want to wherever they want. Sometimes they do this for good reason, on your explicit request. But often they don't. Little Snitch allows you to intercept these unwanted connection attempts, and lets you decide how to proceed. Little Snitch informs you whenever a program attempts to establish an outgoing Internet connection. You can then choose to allow or deny this connection, or define a rule how to handle similar, future connection attempts. This reliably prevents private data from being sent out without your knowledge. How is this different than selecting your Windows volume from within Startup Disk in System Preferences? Well, using Startup Disk actually changes your startup disk permanently so that each time you restart, it boots into whatever you have selected. What this program is doing is the same thing that happens when you hold down Option at startup and select Windows. However, the app only requires a single click and your admin password, and then it restarts your computer into Windows without further input from you. It will not actually change your startup disk. | AppDelete 4.0 - The speedy and efficient way to delete your unwanted apps.. (Shareware) Posted: 27 Aug 2012 08:59 PM PDT  AppDelete is an uninstaller for Macs that will remove not only Applications but also Widgets, Preference Panes, Plugins and Screensavers along with their associated files. Without AppDelete these associated items will be left behind to take up space and potentially cause issues. For a proper uninstall don't just delete but be sure to AppDelete! You can drag any item that can be uninstalled onto AppDelete: Applications, Widgets, Preference Panes, Plugins, Screensavers, etc. You can also activate AppDelete in many ways: dragging items onto main window, onto dock icon, selecting in menu, right-clicking using AppDelete workflow, and throwing items in the trash. When the preview screen appears you can uncheck any items you would like to exclude. You also have several choices: delete the items, log only the items, or archive (copy) the items to a .zip file for safekeeping or reinstall at a later date. The items you delete will be moved to the trash and arranged in a folder so that you can see exactly what was deleted and you know exactly where it came from.
