X Lossless Decoder 20110821 - Encode, transcode, and play various music file formats.. (Free)

Posted: 21 Aug 2011 12:39 AM PDT

X Lossless Decoder (XLD) is a tool for Mac OS X that is able to decode/convert/play various 'lossless' audio files. The supported audio files can be split into some tracks with cue sheet when decoding.

XLD supports the following formats:

  • (Ogg) FLAC (.flac/.ogg)
  • Monkey's Audio (.ape)
  • Wavpack (.wv)
  • TTA (.tta)
  • Apple Lossless (.m4a) [10.4 and later]
  • TAK (.tak) [Requires Wine]
  • Shorten (.shn) [SHN v3 only]
  • AIFF, WAV, etc
Other formats supported by Libsndfile are also decodable. XLD uses not decoder frontend but library to decode, so no intermediate files are generated. All of the supported formats can be directly split with the cue sheet. XLD also supports so-called 'embedded' or 'internal' cue sheet.

Currently you can choose output format from WAVE,AIFF and Raw PCM. In addition, you can choose Ogg Vorbis (aoTuV), MPEG-4 AAC (QuickTime/CoreAudio), MP3 (LAME), Apple Lossless and FLAC in the GUI version.

Version 20110821: Release notes were unavailable when this listing was updated.

Wondering what's wrong with GamesRadar? (Nintendo 3DS)

Posted: 21 Aug 2011 12:00 AM PDT

GamesRadar's going under the knife for a bit to bring you crucial new features and site updates. Keeping with the surgical analogy, we've got to starve ourselves for 24 hours in order to undergo the operation, so we're not allowed to eat any content for a while…doctor's orders. FEAR NOT: GamesRadar is not broken, lost, or in the hands of Anonymous. Give us a day or so and we should come roaring back with newly enhanced bionic badassery..."

Simon Silver 3.2b5 - Web/FTP site crash and change monitoring app.. (Shareware)

Posted: 20 Aug 2011 09:57 PM PDT

Simon is the essential site monitoring tool for Mac OS X. It checks web pages, FTP and DNS servers, local or remote ports, and other services for changes or failures, and notifies you via e-mail, sound, speech, Twitter, HTML reports, and other means.

Add tests to Simon to track updated sites, to alert you when an important server goes down or recovers, check on Samba SMB, take periodic screenshots of the system, track posts and new comments on your or friends' blogs, check for web mail, make sure a key application is running, get notifications of updates to favorite news and entertainment websites, keep an eye on auctions, and many other uses.

Services include Web (HTTP) to check web pages (including secure ones, and supporting POST and cookies), FTP files and directory listings, DNS, Ping servers, see Twitter updates, watch a local Application, capture periodic Screenshots, watch for System Log Errors, and more. Plus, you can easily add your own services via custom port connections, AppleScripts, shell scripts, or Perl, PHP, Python, etc.

Receive notification of changes, failures, and/or recoveries via various Actions, auto-generated E-mail messages (including to your pager or cellphone), Growl notifications, Twitter updates or direct messages, iCal or Google Calendar events, an audible Sound, or customizable Speech.

HTML reports allow remote viewing of a summary and/or details of Simon monitoring. Reports can be saved to a local web server, or uploaded remotely. Customizable templates (with several examples provided) allow embedding in a web page, using a compact format suitable for viewing on PDAs and cellphones, creating a RSS feed, and more.

Version 3.2b5:
  • Restored the help book, which was omitted from previous beta releases.
  • Updated the localizations.

iAlertU 0.74 - Remote controlled motion-sensitive alarm for MacBook.. (Free)

Posted: 20 Aug 2011 09:17 PM PDT

iAlertU is the first of its kind of alarm system for your Apple MacBook computer. Basically iAlertU is a car alarm for your Apple Mac. iAlertU uses the built in accelerometer and other sensors to trigger an alarm and the iSight camera to capture an image of the thief. iAlertU can be configured to email details of the alarm event to a specific email address. In addition to this you can tell iAlertU to execute an Applescript when the alarm goes off. Some people use this to generate SMS alerts. With v0.71, the developers of iAlertU added a new interface that can be used by an external, authenticated application to control iAlertU, request photo's, and other information captured by iAlertU. The first such application is uAlertMe, an iPhone app available on Apple's app store (for more information, visit the developers webpage at http://www.pkclsoft.com/pkclsoft/ualertme.html).

Version 0.74:
  • New feature:
  • Push Notifications have been added so that people that have uAlertMe installed on their iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch can received a push notification whenever the alarm is triggered on the Macbook. With v1.1 of uAlertMe, all you need to do is connect to v0.74 of iAlertU (whilst the Macbook has an internet connection), and then after that alarms will be sent to the iPhone.
  • Bug fix:
  • A problem with disarming after the macbook has been asleep has been fixed when the Macbook is configured to ask for a password after a sleep.
  • Bug fix:
  • If a second or more display is connected when the Macbook is armed, the display is detected and locked.
  • The network interface for uAlertMe is restarted after a sleep to better facilitate new connections.
  • Bug fix:
  • Device state changes were not triggering alarms every time.
  • Minor memory leaks plugged.
  • New feature:
  • Animated GIF files may now be used for lock screens.
  • Improved handling of keystrokes when armed so that spurious alarms aren't triggered when typing in your password.
  • For people wanting to try and get the latest code working on Mac OS X 10.5, I've reduced the dependencies on Mac OS X 10.6 functionality.
  • Bug fix:
  • Message unpacking from uAlertMe could cause a crash, though very rarely.
  • Removed support for legacy (pre 0.70) password mechanism.
  • Added Macbook serial number and IP address to information sent to uAlertMe.
