MPlayerX 1.0.17 - Alternative, modern media player.. (Free)

Posted: 07 Sep 2012 04:00 AM PDT

MPlayerX is an alternative media player powered by ffmpeg and mplayer.

"Well, I was really tired of Mplayer OS X. It runs OK but, it looks like a ninety year old man."

And also, the new technology Apple prevailed, such as Core Animation, Grand-Central Dispatch, even OpenCL, pushed me to give them a try.

So I started without even knowing how to program under Mac, came to know Xcode, Objective-C 2.0, Cocoa and the Core family.

It is still in such a primary status, I will keep on enhance and figure out how to do this and how to do that.

Now it could do:

  • Multi-Screen Fullscreen support.
  • Apple Remote support.
  • Multi-Touch support.
  • Automatic find next proper file to play.
  • Auto detect the encode method of subtitle file (with Universal Charset Detector).
  • Snapshot.
  • Multi-Threaded ffmpeg support.
  • Change subtitle size while playing(except VOBSub)
  • Remember last played time and resume playing.

Version 1.0.17:
  • Hardware Accelerated Video Decoding boosted.
  • New: scripting support added, which means Flutter.app-ready now.
  • Fix: three fingers swiping stopped working.
  • Fix: in some mp3 and m4a files with album art, time/seek stopped working.
  • Fix: when paused, display dimmed and Mac falls to sleep.
  • Fix: video is wrongly decoded in some RealMedia files.
  • Fix: the remaining time is wrong when playback speed is not 1x.
  • Fix: the position of the play control always reset when app exits.

Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2013 - Screenshots

Posted: 07 Sep 2012 04:42 AM PDT

Top Shot Fearmaster Information:
• Control Your Fear - This innovative controller utilizes two heartbeat monitors, as well as a motion sensor, to track your heart rate and your subtle movements.   If the player's heart rate is high and hand is unsteady, their view on screen will be blurred making it more difficult to aim. As a player settles, the scope will sharpen and the animal's vitals will appear so players can fire their weapon with greater accuracy. (See accompanying screenshot for side-by-side comparison)
• What's the Technology? - The Top Shot Fearmaster is powered by unique sensor fusion technology that merges input from a heart rate monitor and an infrared camera. The software searches for specific breathing-induced patterns in the player's heartbeat and correlates them with hand stability to determine the player's focus level and how likely they are to line up the kill shot.

Sensors, Vol. 12, Pages 12265-12278: A Synthetic Phased Array Surface Acoustic Wave Sensor for Quantifying Bolt Tension

Posted: 07 Sep 2012 12:00 AM PDT

In this paper, we report our findings on implementing a synthetic phased array surface acoustic wave sensor to quantify bolt tension. Maintaining proper bolt tension is important in many fields such as for ensuring safe operation of civil infrastructures. Significant advantages of this relatively simple methodology is its capability to assess bolt tension without any contact with the bolt, thus enabling measurement at inaccessible locations, multiple bolt measurement capability at a time, not requiring data collection during the installation and no calibration requirements. We performed detailed experiments on a custom-built flexible bench-top experimental setup consisting of 1018 steel plate of 12.7 mm (½ in) thickness, a 6.4 mm (¼ in) grade 8 bolt and a stainless steel washer with 19 mm (¾ in) of external diameter. Our results indicate that this method is not only capable of clearly distinguishing properly bolted joints from loosened joints but also capable of quantifying how loose the bolt actually is. We also conducted detailed signal-to-noise (SNR) analysis and showed that the SNR value for the entire bolt tension range was sufficient for image reconstruction.

Football Manager 2013 - Screenshots

Posted: 07 Sep 2012 04:29 AM PDT

In addition to offering an array of improvements and enhancements over its predecessors, the new release also incorporates a series of radical changes and new game modes which, for some, will revolutionise the way the game is played.

Perhaps the most noteworthy of these is the introduction of the all-new Classic mode… or 'FMC' as it's become known within Sports Interactive. FMC offers, for the first time in Football Manager's long and successful history, an alternative, less time-consuming way for players to approach the game. The new mode simplifies the way players manage their club and allows them to focus on the nuts and bolts of taking their team to the top.

As well as streamlining the manager's role – to the point where a full season can be played out in eight to 10 hours – FMC also offers its players two distinct ways to play; they can either embark on an open-ended career or test their mettle in the new Challenge mode.

In Challenge mode the player faces a particular scenario which is designed to test his or her management skills over a set period of time – usually half a season. The challenges replicate a variety of real world circumstances… is it possible to achieve success with a squad consisting entirely of kids, for example, or can a team that's bottom of the table on Christmas Day be saved from relegation by the end of the season?

Challenge mode was first introduced to Football Manager in Football Manager Handheld 2012 (for iPhone and Android) and proved so popular that it has been incorporated into the PC and Mac game. FM13 will ship with five challenges included, while more will be made available throughout the year, depending on the level of demand from players around the world.

Alongside Challenge mode, FMC ...

IJMS, Vol. 13, Pages 11188-11193: Isolation and Characterization of 13 New Polymorphic Microsatellite Markers in the Phaseolus vulgaris L. (Common Bean) Genome

Posted: 07 Sep 2012 12:00 AM PDT

In this study, 13 polymorphic microsatellite markers were isolated from the Phaseolus vulgaris L. (common bean) by using the Fast Isolation by AFLP of Sequence COntaining Repeats (FIASCO) protocol. These markers revealed two to seven alleles, with an average of 3.64 alleles per locus. The polymorphic information content (PIC) values ranged from 0.055 to 0.721 over 13 loci, with a mean value of 0.492, and 7 loci having PIC greater than 0.5. The expected heterozygosity (HE) and observed heterozygosity (HO) levels ranged from 0.057 to 0.814 and from 0.026 to 0.531, respectively. Cross-species amplification of the 13 prime pairs was performed in its related specie of Vigna unguiculata L. Seven out of all these markers showed cross-species transferability. These markers will be useful for future genetic diversity and population genetics studies for this agricultural specie and its related species.

IJMS, Vol. 13, Pages 11173-11187: Commercial Bee Pollen with Different Geographical Origins: A Comprehensive Approach

Posted: 07 Sep 2012 12:00 AM PDT

Since the primordial of humanity, pollen has been considered a good source of nutrients and energy. Its promising healing properties have also been referred to. The present study aimed to characterize, for the first time, eight commercial pollens from Portugal and Spain available on the market studying the legislation on labeling, pollinic origin, physicochemical and microbiological analyses and identification of yeasts. Eleven botanical families were found amongst the samples. The most abundant family and the most dominant pollen was Cistaceae. The moisture content, ash, aw, pH, reducing sugars, carbohydrates, proteins, lipids and energy were analyzed and the specific parameters were within the specifications required by some countries with legislation regarding these parameters. Microbiologically commercial pollen showed acceptable safety for the commercial quality and hygiene. All samples showed negative results for toxigenic species. The microorganisms studied were aerobic mesophiles, yeasts and moulds, coliforms, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella and sulfite-reducing Clostridium. During the work, six yeasts species were isolated from pollen, with Rhodotorula mucilaginosa being the most abundant, as it was present in four samples.

IJMS, Vol. 13, Pages 11165-11172: Characterization of 15 Polymorphic Microsatellite Loci for Cephalotaxus oliveri (Cephalotaxaceae), a Conifer of Medicinal Importance

Posted: 07 Sep 2012 12:00 AM PDT

Cephalotaxus oliveri is a scarce medicinal conifer endemic to the south central region of China and Vietnam. A small fragmented population presently exists due to anthropogenic disturbance. C. oliveri has been used for its alkaloids harringtonine and homoharringtonine, which are effective against leucocythemia and lymphadenosarcoma. Monoecious plants have been detected in nature, although they were understood to be dioecious. In order to study the mating system, population genetics and the genetic effects of habitat fragmentation on C. oliveri, 15 polymorphic and 12 monomorphic microsatellite loci were developed for C. oliveri by using the Fast Isolation by AFLP of Sequences Containing repeats (FIASCO) protocol. The polymorphisms were assessed in 96 individuals from three natural populations (32 individuals per population). The number of alleles per locus ranged from two to 33, the observed and expected heterozygosity per locus ranged from 0.000 to 1.000 and from 0.000 to 0.923, respectively. These loci would facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the genetic dynamics on C. oliveri, which will be useful for establishing effective conservation strategies for this species.

IJMS, Vol. 13, Pages 11141-11164: Nucleotide Excision Repair in Cellular Chromatin: Studies with Yeast from Nucleotide to Gene to Genome

Posted: 07 Sep 2012 12:00 AM PDT

Here we review our development of, and results with, high resolution studies on global genome nucleotide excision repair (GGNER) in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. We have focused on how GGNER relates to histone acetylation for its functioning and we have identified the histone acetyl tranferase Gcn5 and acetylation at lysines 9/14 of histone H3 as a major factor in enabling efficient repair. We consider results employing primarily MFA2 as a model gene, but also those with URA3 located at subtelomeric sequences. In the latter case we also see a role for acetylation at histone H4. We then go on to outline the development of a high resolution genome-wide approach that enables one to examine correlations between histone modifications and the nucleotide excision repair (NER) of UV-induced cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers throughout entire genomes. This is an approach that will enable rapid advances in understanding the complexities of how compacted chromatin in chromosomes is processed to access DNA damage and then returned to its pre-damaged status to maintain epigenetic codes.

Forests, Vol. 3, Pages 799-817: Habitat Modeling of Alien Plant Species at Varying Levels of Occupancy

Posted: 07 Sep 2012 12:00 AM PDT

Distribution models of invasive plants are very useful tools for conservation management. There are challenges in modeling expanding populations, especially in a dynamic environment, and when data are limited. In this paper, predictive habitat models were assessed for three invasive plant species, at differing levels of occurrence, using two different habitat modeling techniques: logistic regression and maximum entropy. The influence of disturbance, spatial and temporal heterogeneity, and other landscape characteristics is assessed by creating regional level models based on occurrence records from the USDA Forest Service's Forest Inventory and Analysis database. Logistic regression and maximum entropy models were assessed independently. Ensemble models were developed to combine the predictions of the two analysis approaches to obtain a more robust prediction estimate. All species had strong models with Area Under the receiver operator Curve (AUC) of >0.75. The species with the highest occurrence, Ligustrum spp., had the greatest agreement between the models (93%). Lolium arundinaceum had the most disagreement between models at 33% and the lowest AUC values. Overall, the strength of integrative modeling in assessing and understanding habitat modeling was demonstrated.

Forests, Vol. 3, Pages 787-798: Long-Term Survival of Saplings during the Transformation to Continuous Cover

Posted: 07 Sep 2012 12:00 AM PDT

The Glentress Trial Area is an extensive research area in southern Scotland of 117 ha where a long-term trial of the transformation of even-aged plantations to continuous cover has been in progress since 1952. During the assessment of permanent sample plots in 1990 information on the species and spatial position of saplings (trees taller than 1.3 m with a diameter at breast height of < 7 cm) was recorded. This provided a unique opportunity to investigate the long-term survival of saplings during the transformation process when the Trial Area was reassessed in 2009. The main finding was that 37% of saplings survived the 19-year period and the majority developed into trees (≥7 cm diameter at breast height). There was considerable variation between species, the lowest survival of saplings was European larch (Larix decidua Mill.) (13%) and the highest European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) (55%); however differences between species were not significant. There were, however, significant differences between the six management areas with three with high sapling survival (55% to 61%) but others much lower (27% to 32%). If this result is confirmed by other studies, covering a broader range of sites, management guidance that assumes 90% survival will need to be revised.

Agriculture, Vol. 2, Pages 211-227: Nonstop Selection for High and Stable Crop Yield by Two Prognostic Equations to Reduce Yield Losses

Posted: 07 Sep 2012 12:00 AM PDT

Yield losses occurring at the field level, whether due to plant diseases or abiotic stresses, reveal reduced stability of the crop yield potential. The paper argues that the stability of crop yield potential is a trait with a clear genetic component, which can be successfully selected for at the single-plant level and incorporated into high-yielding cultivars. Two novel selection equations with prognostic power are presented, capable to objectively phenotype and evaluate individual plants in real field conditions in the absence of the masking effects of interplant competition and soil heterogeneity. The equations predict performance at the crop stand through the key concept of coefficient of homeostasis and are equally useful for early generation selection and for nonstop selection within finished cultivars in order to continuously incorporate the adaptive (genetic or epigenetic) responses of plants. Exploitation of adaptive responses acquires particular importance in view of the climate change effects on crop productivity and the changing biotic or abiotic micro-environments. Cotton is used as a case study to highlight the potential of nonstop selection for increasing crop yield and for the gradual build-up of disease resistance. In addition, the paper envisions and proposes the formation of international networks of researchers focusing on specific diseases as, for example, the cereal root-rot or the cotton Verticillium wilt that will concurrently use the proposed strategy in their respective environments to select for resistant genotypes, while gaining a deeper understanding of the nature of the genetic or epigenetic changes at the phenotypic and genomic levels.
