Remote Sensing, Vol. 5, Pages 1774-1786: Deformation Trend Extraction Based on Multi-Temporal InSAR in Shanghai

Posted: 11 Apr 2013 12:00 AM PDT

Shanghai is a modern metropolis characterized by high urban density and anthropogenic ground motions. Although traditional deformation monitoring methods, such as GPS and spirit leveling, are reliable to millimeter accuracy, the sparse point subsidence information makes understanding large areas difficult. Multiple temporal space-borne synthetic aperture radar interferometry is a powerful high-accuracy (sub-millimeter) remote sensing tool for monitoring slow ground deformation for a large area with a high point density. In this paper, the Interferometric Point Target Time Series Analysis method is used to extract ground subsidence rates in Shanghai based on 31 C-Band and 35 X-Band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images obtained by Envisat and COSMO SkyMed (CSK) satellites from 2007 to 2010. A significant subsidence funnel that was detected is located in the junction place between the Yangpu and the Hongkou Districts. A t-test is formulated to judge the agreements between the subsidence results obtained by SAR and by spirit leveling. In addition, four profile lines crossing the subsidence funnel area are chosen for a comparison of ground subsidence rates, which were obtained by the two different band SAR images, and show a good agreement.

Axioms, Vol. 2, Pages 100-121: Divergence-Free Multiwavelets on the Half Plane

Posted: 11 Apr 2013 12:00 AM PDT

We use the biorthogonal multiwavelets related by differentiation constructed in previous work to construct compactly supported biorthogonal multiwavelet bases for the space of vector fields on the upper half plane R2 + such that the reconstruction wavelets are divergence-free and have vanishing normal components on the boundary of R2 +. Such wavelets are suitable to study the Navier–Stokes equations on a half plane when imposing a Navier boundary condition.

Axioms, Vol. 2, Pages 85-99: On the q-Analogues of Srivastava’s Triple Hypergeometric Functions

Posted: 11 Apr 2013 12:00 AM PDT

We find Euler integral formulas, summation and reduction formulas for q-analogues of Srivastava's three triple hypergeometric functions. The proofs use q-analogues of Picard's integral formula for the first Appell function, a summation formula for the first Appell function based on the Bayley–Daum formula, and a general triple series reduction formula of Karlsson. Many of the formulas are purely formal, since it is difficult to find convergence regions for these functions of several complex variables. We use the Ward q-addition to describe the known convergence regions of q-Appell and q-Lauricella functions.

Rayman Legends delay triggered creation of 30 new levels

Posted: 11 Apr 2013 02:48 AM PDT

Creator Michel Ancel also says he wasn't shocked by fan outrage.

The seven month delay of former Wii U exclusive Rayman Legends has given Ubisoft Montpellier time to add 30 additional levels into the game, the developer has said.

Speaking to ONM UK, senior game manager Michael Micholic spoke about the new additions. "The things we are adding aren't minor," he said, "we're not talking about adding some polish here and there, but 30 new levels and several new bosses."

Rayman Legends was scheduled to be released on the Wii U in February 2013, but was pushed back to September to make way for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the title. News of the delay angered many fans, and even caused some to protest outside Ubisoft Montpellier's offices.

Also speaking to ONM, series creator Michel Ancel said he wasn't shocked by the backlash. "It was really hard for us," said Ancel, "Of course, there are more important issues and problems in the world but we worked really hard to make something and were so involved, it was difficult for us and the fans."

Ubisoft has promised Wii U owners of Rayman Legends an exclusive challenge mode.

Writing anonymously back in February, an ex-Ubisoft developer expressed his frustration at the original delay and said that the team was working overtime for months to have the game ready for February.

"For practical matters," said the developer, "you'll have to wait for some months for the game to be released and will most likely serve for more content to be added and do it better. For us, this means we've spent 6 months barely seeing our wives, kids, and friends for nothing because, after all, such a haste wasn't needed. Believe it, it was a hell to swallow these news."

Rayman Legends is scheduled to be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U in September 2013. For more information on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

Adam Orth no longer with Microsoft after "always-on" comments

Posted: 11 Apr 2013 01:41 AM PDT

Orth reported to have left company in the wake of "inappropriate" comments on Twitter.

Microsoft creative director Adam Orth is reported to have left the company.

Sources speaking to Game Informer say that Orth resigned from the company following the outcry triggered by his comments that customers should learn to deal with a console that requires a permanent connection to the Internet.

Speaking on Twitter last week, Orth made headlines have saying "sorry, I don't get the drama around having an 'always on' console. Every device now is 'always on'. That's the world we live in." He then used the hashtag "#dealwithit."

Orth continued, saying that people should "definitely get with the times and get the internet" and that "I want every device to be 'always on.'"

The comments, which arrived off the back of another wave of rumours suggesting Microsoft's next Xbox would require gamers to be connected to the Internet in order to play games, provoked anger in many corners of the gaming community.

Microsoft later took steps to distance itself from Orth's "inappropriate" comments, issuing a statement saying "we apologize for the inappropriate comments made by an employee on Twitter yesterday. This person is not a spokesperson for Microsoft, and his personal views do not reflect the customer centric approach we take to our products or how we would communicate directly with our loyal consumers."

"We are very sorry if this offended anyone, however we have not made any announcements about our product roadmap, and have no further comment on this matter."

Orth had joined Microsoft in 2012 as a creative director on a currently unannounced project. He had previously worked on God of War 3 and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II.

Flashback remake announced by Ubisoft

Posted: 11 Apr 2013 01:00 AM PDT

Remake of 1992 title coming to Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PC this summer.

90s adventure Flashback is being revived for current-gen consoles to celebrate the original game's 20th anniversary, Ubisoft has announced.

Flashback, which is being developed using the Unreal engine by French developer VectorCell, will be released for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network later this year.

The game is a reimagining of the 1992 original, and features 3D graphics, new controls, and a levelling mechanic for protagonist Conrad B. Hart. Vector Cell claims the game is now more accessible and features platforming challenges that are slightly less demanding than in the original.

Conrad's enemies will once again be the shape-shifting Morphs, and all the characters from the original game will make an appearance in the remake alongside new additions.

Speaking in a statement, Vector Cell said simply porting the original would have made a game that was "rather punishing through today's lenses."

Despite all the new changes, however, Vector Cell is confident that it was "able to keep Flashback's soul and put it into a new body." Five of the staff at the 15-strong development team worked on the original game, including original creator Paul Cuisset.

Flashback was originally developed by Delphine Software Interactive, which also produced Eric Chahi's 90s hit Another World. Both games used a distinctive rotoscope animation style similar to the original Prince of Persia, which also received a HD remake back in 2007.

Vector Cell's last title was 2012's survival horror downloadable AMY, which received a score of 3.0 in its GameSpot review.

Ubisoft confirms Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon will launch May 1

Posted: 11 Apr 2013 01:00 AM PDT

Far Cry 3 spin-off officially confirmed two days after the full version of the game is leaked online.

Ubisoft has officially confirmed that its Montreal studio is developing the oft-rumoured Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and that the game will be available for digital download on May 1.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon will be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, and Ubisoft says the spin-off contains around eight hours of original content. The game features a single open-world island to explore, with many of Far Cry 3's gameplay systems and mechanics making a return, such as hunting, gathering numerous collectibles, and liberating outposts.

The original Far Cry 3 will not be required in order to play Blood Dragon.

Information about the 80s-themed Far Cry 3 spin-off has been leaked numerous times, starting with a listing on the Brazilian classification ratings group and culminating in over 30 minutes of footage of the game appearing online.

Earlier this week hackers managed to break open Ubisoft's digital PC platform uPlay and get free access to its games, including the currently-unreleased Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon. Ubisoft has temporarily closed the service while it works on a fix.

For more information on Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
