Posted: 10 Jun 2012 02:40 AM PDT Did you know the Devil can die? If you ask Sega, he did. And he was a bunny rabbit. And, apparently, also a massive prick. He died and left his son in charge of Hell, but after a stray photo from the paparazzi got out (I assume Lady GaGa's a photographer in Hell) the new overlord, Prince Ash, has decided not just to get it taken down—that would be too easy—but also to murder everyone who viewed the photo online. No need to take it down if everyone who viewed it is dead, right? That's the "logic" here. Hell Yeah! follows Prince Ash on his journey into murderous bliss. In Metroid-vania fashion, he'll bounce all over the screen to explore areas for the bastards that read the article about his little… *cough*incident*cough*, while searching for expensive gems that can help him beef up his weaponry to blow the stronger bastards to smithereens. A prince has gotta do what a prince has gotta do. Even with the dark tones throughout the environment, I had no idea just how pretty Hell could be. The rocks and ground spaces are reddish-orange and black, the backdrop is only lit by lava, and the prince himself looks like a detailed, raggedy, zombie-esque bunny rabbit. Oh, and everything is beautifully set on fire! Glorious! There are certain spaces with some bright pastel colors, but as striking as they might be, they blend in well enough that they don't feel out of place. With 100 specific guys to track down and beat the ever-loving crap out of, a spinning gyro that doubles as some sort of frigid' chainsaw (and cuts through anything it touches), and a prince with a sense of humor along with a pissy demeanor, I'm genuinely looking forward to Hell Yeah! as a finished product. With 100 ... |
Posted: 10 Jun 2012 01:48 AM PDT My other shoes are indoors. After getting an exclusive look at FIFA 13, it is safe to say soccer or futbol (properly put) is here to stay in video games. FIFA can and will definitely duke it out with the heavyweights in the sports genre. For the last few years, EA has been spending a lot of time, energy, and money in making an authentic soccer game people from all over the world can enjoy. United States will finally learn why this is the most popular sport on earth. Fans and critics have spoken, and it appears the FIFA crew has been listening to all of our prayers. AI is now actually intelligent. No longer will you single-handedly attack on your own, while your computer-controlled teammates run in absolutely ridiculous directions, as you attempt to pass them the ball in space. The new intelligence system allows AI to react to plays realistically and effectively. Fellow attackers now will strategically cut to the goal just like your favorite players do. Spacing is key and once executed correctly, the tempo of the game loosens and flows much better. I had the chance to watch the E3 demo, which focuses on a few new features. The intelligence update was the bulk of it, but alongside that was impact engine, dribble control, and player ratings actually effecting the team's play on the pitch. Impact hasn't changed all that much except for defensive and offensive jockeying for ball control. A defender will now use his body more to stop an attacker in their tracks. Like in basketball, a defender will put his back to an opponent and box out anyone dribbling the ball or trying to get to it. This makes tackling a lot more effective. Dribble control system has taken a page from FIFA Street and implemented it to precision dribbling. The ability to break ... |
The Amazing Spider-Man - Preview Posted: 10 Jun 2012 01:00 AM PDT Swing before dying. In a hands-off demo, the statuesque real-time model of Spider-Man at the start screen of The Amazing Spider-Man stands against the expansive Manhattan cityscape. You move him into action. He falls, but it doesn't look in-game but like a cinematic, which is exactly the point. Leaping from a high skyscraper, the staff member playing the game waited until he was about five feet from the ground to start web-swinging, which showed just how exhillarating the game could feel as the Manhattan streets blurred as they wooshed past. This sense of realism is driven home numerous times. The suit is highly detailed, and Dee Brown of Beenox told us that as Spider-Man took damage the suit would rip and eventually reveal cuts and bruises to Peter Parker's skin below, and that Parker would have to go home and repair the suit to get it back into shape. A new mechanic added to this Spider-Man game is Web-Rush, that shows off Spidey's incredible agility as you pick a destination and then watch as the web crawler dashes over obstacles. You can choose new destinations at will, during web rushes or swings, and Spider-Man will dash quickly to the targeted area. In order to keep the game from having the curse of a standard movie tie-in, Brown told us the game is set after the events of the film, which allows for greater lattitude in story and characters, and also allowed for an open-world Manhattan for Spidey to swing around in. Combat showcases Spider-Man's agility and speed, focusing on stringing combos into finishing moves that plaster thugs to the floor while encased in webs. The Web-Rush can be used as a sneak attack and features heavily in a showcased boss battle with Rhino, that used a traditional three-strikes-and-he's-out structure. Against ... |
